Barbican
Barbican is a lovely surprise of a bedroom with rustic, exposed timber trusses, a sloping ceiling and a wonderfully cosy feel that belies the room’s size. Located on the second floor, Barbican is the largest bedroom in the house and is laid out as a generous twin although the beds can be combined to form a superking. There is also a sumptuous, velvet, sofa bed in the dressing area which can be made up into a single bed. Barbican is dressed with a unique combination of antique and contemporary furniture, architectural prints, characterful lamps and soft wool throws which combine with bespoke headboards, rugs and cushions to create a truly welcoming feel. The room is complimented by an elegant, ensuite shower room with a large walk-in shower set beneath the eaves and an antique chair and mirror. The bedroom is lit by a characterful, Yorkshire sliding sash window that looks out across pantile roofs to the spire of the twelfth century St Lawrence’s Church. Walmgate below leads out to its medieval gate or ‘bar’; the only remaining gate in York’s city walls to retain its medieval fortification or ‘barbican’. The Walmgate barbican lends its name, not only to this richly decorated room, but also to the nearby Barbican Theatre.
“A beautiful home that’s filled with charm, creativity and love.”
