Our Rooms

Minster

Minster is the most romantic room in the house. Located on the first floor, or ‘piano nobile’ as the Georgians would have called it, Minster was originally used as a formal drawing room.

Bettys

The room is named after Bettys Tearoom, a York institution. It also gives a nod to the highly decorative fireplace which took its design from a Georgian copy book produced by Batty Langley in 1745.

Barbican

Barbican is a lovely surprise of a bedroom with rustic, exposed timber trusses, a sloping ceiling and a wonderfully cosy feel that belies the room’s size. Located on the second floor, Barbican is the largest bedroom in the house and is laid out as a generous twin although the beds can be combined to form a superking.

Foss

With its exposed timber trusses, sloping ceiling and coastal décor, Foss is a fun yet tranquil room. Located on the second floor, it is the second largest bedroom in the house. It is laid out as a generous twin although the beds can be combined to form a superking.

Shambles

Just like its namesake, Shambles is packed full of character, despite being the smallest bedroom in the house. Originally the Georgian kitchen, Shambles has an impressive fireplace and a quirky walk-in cupboard with shelves which still contains hooks for teacups! This richly decorated ground floor room contains two single beds, which can be combined to form a superking.

All bedrooms are provided with hairdryers, shaving/electric toothbrush plug adaptors and mirror. There is also a long mirror on the first floor. A sewing kit, shoe cleaning kit and iron are provided in the pantry. The larger rooms include drawers and all have hangers to ensure that your special outfits remain crease-free!
