Bettys

This pretty room is located on the grand first floor and would have, historically, formed the master bedroom. It has a comfy, king size, rattan bed and two elegant, south facing sashes with window seats that look out over Walmgate.  The room is named after Bettys Tearoom, a York institution. It also gives a nod to the highly decorative fireplace which took its design from a Georgian copy book produced by Batty Langley in 1745. Like Minster, Bettys is lined in incredibly rare, Georgian panelling topped by a highly ornamental cornice and complimented by a beautiful chandelier. The Georgian paint scheme we uncovered incorporated a turquoise ceiling and pink walls. We’ve opted for softer tones complemented by William Morris wallpaper which give the room a very calm atmosphere. Bettys has an elegant bathroom in the adjacent room with a fireplace, roll top bath, hand-held shower and heated towel rail. This suite of rooms is decorated with a bespoke selection of antique furniture and prints whilst the velvet ottoman, sheepskin rug and range of lamps combine to create a cosy atmosphere.

Amazing! This house is a triumph-excellent restoration, wonderful sympathetic décor and a warm, welcoming feel. I enjoyed every minute of my stay.”
