Foss

With its exposed timber trusses, sloping ceiling and coastal décor, Foss is a fun yet tranquil room. Located on the second floor, it is the second largest bedroom in the house. It is laid out as a generous twin although the beds can be combined to form a superking and there is plenty of space for a cot in the dressing area. Foss is served by its own generous shower room which is located across the landing. This is a richly decorated room and contains a large walk-in shower and an antique chair and mirror. Foss faces towards the River Foss which was, historically, navigable all the way up from Hull via the River Humber. Through the large rooflight, you can see the iconic, brick tower of Rowntree Wharf with York Minster visible beyond. Seagulls, who have followed the river from the sea, can sometimes be heard and this has inspired the calm, coastal décor of the room. The room is decorated in a serene, pale blue with bespoke, wave topped headboards. Antiques, original watercolours and a range of lamps, rugs, cushions and throws have been sourced to create a distinctive yet cosy atmosphere. The characterful, gable window provides a lovely view of a classic York roofscape with a jumble of clay pantiles and brick chimneys.

“Our bedroom (Foss) had everything in it and was so lovely and comfortable.”
